The most interesting thing about this to me is that the original parody article is gone, but news articles that take the parody seriously are still on the web. We are discovering a new example of false history where publication is not enough--one must both publish and succeed financially, or your work, if remembered at all, may be remembered by out of context quotes accompanied by dead links.
