Libertarians: Helping the Fascists, Every Damn Day. LIKE IT'S THEIR JOB.
Very frustrated as I see Libertarians helping Republicans wreck democracy.
Every Libertarian Party candidate has two things in common: they are pretending Republicans are not fascists trying to wreck democracy, and they are pretending Democrats are just as bad as whatever it is they are pretending Republicans are.
For the record, Republicans are fascists.
Republicans have never been more authoritarian, and Democrats have never been more libertarian. As the Southern Strategy worked its evil, it brought he northern and southern racists and authoritarians under a white Christian banner in the Republican Party.
Through no work of their own, Democrats just got more libertarian as these authoritarians left. Then I became a Democrat, and they got MUCH more libertarian in one day (haha right).
Anyway, Republicans have decided democracy had its chance and now we need a white Christian dictatorship.
Democrats are standing against that, on shaky legs. None of them have ever beaten fascism before, and neither have I. I just know we have to work for freedom if we're going to keep it.
I am a libertarian and was an LP libertarian supporter my whole life: until I made a big error backing a guy I really liked (Gary Johnson) instead of Hillary, whom I still don't like, and to whatever extent I hurt Hillary I helped fascism rise in the US.
I had NO idea the whole Republican Party would shift to Trumpism and change the entire liberty dynamic in four years. I was wrong, and Libertarians are wrong now.
Freedom sometimes isn't about preference. It's not the automat. It's something people sometimes have to fight for. Like now.
In race after race, Libertarians are pretending the two are the same, that it's a "duopoly." It's not. Not now. Maybe not ever.
Don't vote third party. Please.
That's how Hitler took over. The anti-fascist vote divided, and he won in a plurality. It wasn't the same as here. The Weimar Constitution was weaker than ours, but still, history doesn't repeat itself, but it does rhyme. Similar dynamics, adapted to our special circumstances. That's how fascism works.
If you believe in democracy, take fascism seriously and vote for democracy, not ideology. Vote Democratic.

Dear Libertarians
To my friends who are finally leaving the Libertarian Party: the Democratic Party is the largest anti-fascist coalition in history, and has never been more libertarian on matters of personal liberty. The vast majority advocate well-regulated capitalism, a good safety net, and progressive taxation. That combo has in fact produced some of the most free societies in history
Most are anti-interventionist and they are divided on trade. Most want more immigration, and some even scratch the libertarian position.
As a libertarian Democrat, I just helped, in small ways, Democrats legalize cannabis here in Connecticut. For years Libertarians cried, but we Democrats delivered. It felt good to win one for liberty.
Fellow libertarians, the Libertarian Party is no longer the place for us. The fascist Republican Party is literally the opposite of us. Now is the time to choose the lesser evil, and find out, as I did, that the lesser evil is pretty damn good.

Anti-Statism is Killing the Libertarian Party
Looks like the Libertarian Party is crashing and burning, leaving only paleo-libertarians and alt-right edgelords behind. Former Chair Joe Bishop-Henchman says it's toxic people. I think it goes a bit deeper than that.
The Libertarian Party didn't fail because of toxic people. It attracted toxic people with its extremist, toxic anti-statism.
Liberty is a government program. The most successful in history. It's not the absence of a state -- it's the presence of the right kind of state.
The right kind of state is a liberal democracy with a well-regulated capitalist economy, a well-funded safety net, and some system of restorative progressive taxation.
The rest is details. And the details...that's hard. That's the purpose of politics. To the libertarian, the goal is liberty, and as such the goal is to find, within that general framework, the sweet spot.
My fellow libertarians, this is exactly what the Democratic Party is into.
Liberty isn't the absence of state it's the presence of choices, abundance, and social concord.

Murray Rothbard: Pioneer on the Libertarian-to-Fascist Trail
Murray Rothbard practically started the libertarian-to-fascist pipeline. Call him a pioneer on the trail, that became a pipeline, and is now a superhighway. That's how long this has been going on. He went from protesting the war with the hippies to teaming up with fascist Pat Buchanan.
Meanwhile, the Kochs took the gradualist approach. They still went from libertarian to fascist, though. LP to Tea Party to Trumpism, with their think tanks normalizing the ride, and giving the fashies better arguments.

Can You Name One Successful Libertarian Country? Sure.
Lambton Harbor, Wellington, New Zealand
Thom Hartman asks: Can You Name One Successful Libertarian Country? This clearly shows, at the very least, the failure of libertarian messaging, and the importance of clear semantics.
Can you name one successful libertarian country?
If you mean minarchism, which isn't actually libertarianism as such, but rather one rather shallow, ideological, right wing strain of libertarianism, then none.
But if you mean maximizing economic and individual liberty, ALMOST ALL OF THEM.
Most of the most successful countries on earth generally have the most freedom -- are the most "libertarian."
According to the Human Freedom Index, these are the most libertarian countries: New Zealand, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Denmark, Australia, Canada, Ireland, Estonia, and Germany and Sweden (tied in 9th place).
I would say they're pretty successful (Honestly not sure about Estonia yet -- noobs). While not a direct correlation, there is enough correlation between liberty and success to imply at least partial causation.
That's practical, pragmatic, real world libertarianism and its effects.
Anyway, libertarianism is not really what Thom is implying, but right wing ideological libertarianism has crashed and burned in part on what he is describing, and that rotten shell of Randian/Hayakian thinking is another piece of the puzzle of what wrecked the right and helped create Trumpism.
This thinking was promoted by people like the Kochs giving money to every right wing cause, and helped foster the libertarianism-to-fascism highway.
It has been promoted by the LP, and is partly why they see little difference between the neo-fascist Republican Party and the social democrat Democratic Party.
People are just not communicating and are just not looking outside of their own bubbles.

Libertarians for Joe Biden
Never have Republicans been more authoritarian, and never have Democrats been more libertarian. The LP has thankfully picked someone less qualified than Trump to be president, so there's no reason to support their candidate. Real libertarians are voting Democrat this time around.

Buyer's Remorse, Trumpers?
To all those folks having buyer's remorse for Trump, to those who really want to work for freedom, prosperity, and a more Constitutional government, the Libertarian Party is accepting members.
Basically, if you want more freedom, or less government, you should be with us. If you want less war, you should be with us. Less selling of your data, that's us. More rights respected -- us again.
If you want the cost of living to go down, and the standard of living to go up, you should join us, because economic freedom has been shown time and again to be the road there, and that's the only road we wanna build.
